Esso Great Hall
Revitalization Project
Built in 1885, the Esso Great Hall is the core sanctuary of hockey's proud history and the highlight of any visit to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Housed inside the landmark heritage building, the Esso Great Hall is home to The Stanley Cup, every major NHL trophy and each of the 366 Honoured Members portraits.

Beginning in January of 2012, the interior exhibition components of the Esso Great Hall underwent extensive revitalization. Though maintaining the historic elements of the building itself, new custom trophy cases were added, as well as audio-visual systems, multimedia interactives and theatrical lighting.

The revitalization project has enabled the Hockey Hall of Fame to accommodate future inductees for the next 15-20 years and provide enhanced educational programming to guests while maintaining the pristine exhibition and presentation conditions that have become synonymous with the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The Esso Great Hall opened to the public on Saturday, March 10, 2012, coinciding with the start of March Break. In celebration of the official grand opening, the first 5,000 youth 13 & under visiting during March Break received a free Esso Kids Pack.

Boston Bruins Donate
2011 Stanley Cup Ring
On November 5, 2011, Hockey Hall of Fame Chairman Bill Hay and Curator Phil Pritchard added a 2011 Boston Bruins Stanley Cup ring to the Stanley Cup Championship display at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

The ring, donated by the Boston Bruins organization, is featured in a display celebrating the current and past Stanley Cup champions. The ring features a diamond set image of the Boston Bruins logo and the Stanley Cup. Flush set in the top of the ring and around it are a combination of 311 round brilliant-cut, princess-cut and taper baguette-cut diamonds.

One shoulder features a yellow gold "BRUINS" (bear) image with the words Hall of Fame on top and HOF underneath. The other shoulder features an image of the Stanley Cup set in diamonds and the years 2011, 1972, 1970, 1941, 1939, and 1929 all referring to the years they have won the championship. All diamonds total approximately 6.75cts, and 89.5 grams.

"We are very grateful to the Boston Bruins organization, especially, Cam Neely," said Hay. "As Chairman and CEO of the Hockey Hall of Fame it's an honour to accept this Stanley Cup ring. It will make a wonderful addition to our special Stanley Cup Ring exhibit."
