The NHL Zone is comprised of 6,000 square feet of new exhibits designed at a price tag of Cdn. $2.0 million. This zone complements the NHL brand with richly finished architectural elements including polished black granite and stainless steel showcase structures.
Two nine-foot tall "sentry" statues of Cyclone Taylor and Ken Dryden stand guard at the entrance to 'NHL Legends' a section of the zone that features numerous graphic and artifact displays of individuals distinguished as Hockey Hall of Fame Honoured Members including Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr, Mario Lemieux and the newest class of Inductees. Here, the "players and plays of a lifetime" are also spotlighted on a large video screen showing vignettes from the Gemini-award winning Legends of Hockey television series.
The newest exhibit within 'NHL Legends' features elaborate showcases and thrilling videos all celebrating the 100 seasons of the Montreal Canadiens. Click here for more information on the Canadiens Centennial Exhibit.
'NHL Today' showcases the stars and highlights of today's NHL. This exhibit devotes a showcase to each of the NHL's six divisions as well as the league's annual Hockey Hall of Fame game. On display are a range of artifacts which help capture the story-lines, moments and players that are shaping the current game. Whether an event occurred a century past or a week ago, it provides a continuing thread in hockey history's rich fabric.
'NHL Retro' presents franchise histories, including the defunct franchises like the Kansas City Scouts, Brooklyn Americans and Hamilton Tigers to name but a few.
'NHL Milestones' highlights many of the records existing proudly within the NHL record book:
- Sittler's ten-point game,
- Sawchuk's 103 shutouts
- Mosienko's three goals in 21 seconds
- Gretzky's all-time goal-scoring and point totals plus so many more.
Each is recognized through artifacts and graphic displays.
Located adjacent to and unveiled in conjunction with the NHL Zone is another new exhibit entitled Stanley Cup Dynasties.
The NHL Zone captures a dramatic slice of the world's premier hockey league, created as the final phase of the Hockey Hall of Fame's "new millennium exhibit revitalization plan." In keeping with its mandate to continually change and add exciting new features, the Hall has spent over $12 million in the past five years on exhibit enhancements.
